Former Liverpool and Chelsea forward Fernando Torres has claimed that he wants to stay at the La Liga club beyond this summer.
There have been recent rumours of him leaving the club in the summer however the Spaniard has refuted any such claims with his recent words.
After having successive unsuccessful stints at Chelsea and AC Milan, Torres returned to Atletico Madrid in the winter transfer window of 2014. His return to the club was a celebrated occasion as Atletico Madrid fans chanted his name upon his return.
When asked about his transfer plans, the Spaniard replied, “Now is not the time to listen to offers, nor do I have any interest, I want to be at Atleti,” Torres was quoted by Sky Sports.
The 31-year-old claimed that he wants to win trophies at Atletico Madrid, something that he hasn’t done with the club during his 2 stints with them.
“My future is to win here. It is something I have not done yet. Today I have the good fortune to play where I want, I do not know until when, but I want to enjoy every game.”
While his passion for the club cannot be questioned, it is the form of Fernando Torres that has agonised the Atletico Madrid fans this season.
He has scored just 4 goals in 18 La Liga appearances for the club.
So when it comes to form, Torres still has some way to go before getting on the right side of the fans.
“I am aware that my performance has to be better,” he said. “I want to play a leading role and since I have arrived I have not had consistency. Maybe I have not earned it”.
