With James Milner out due to injury – and Jose Enrique released by the club, the Reds are overly reliant on Alberto Moreno to cover this flank.
However, as evident by his rollercoaster performances last season, Moreno hasn’t done enough to earn confidence from the Liverpool fans. Therefore, while the transfer window is still open for a fortnight, the Reds are rumoured to be finding competition for the Spanish full-back.
Here are 3 Left backs Liverpool could sign to replace Alberto Moreno:
Marcos Alonso – Fiorentina
Certainly not a household name among the Liverpool fan base, but the Fiorentina defender has got all the traits to succeed in the Premier League. In fact, he’s already represented Bolton and Sunderland in English football after being signed from Real Madrid.
Similar to that of Moreno, Alonso is a delight to watch when bursting up front to support the attackers.
However, in sharp contrast to the Spaniard, the former Sunderland loanee is also dependable at the back.
Therefore, if they could get him, Alonso could stop the attacks which usually happen from the left flank against the Reds.
Mattia De Sciglio – AC Milan
In addition to seeing him at the EURO 2016 – where he played for Italy, Liverpool got the taste of his talent when they met AC Milan in their Pre-season tour of America.
The 23-year-old played 22 times for AC Milan last season, providing an assist in the process.
While he is still a long way from being a finished product, De Sciglio could solve the full back headache of Liverpool fans.
Andrew Robertson – Hull City
Earlier this summer, it was reported that Liverpool were targeting the Hull City defender.
For those who watched him play last season, they weren’t surprised given the talent which the Scottish International possesses.
Although he is still 22, Robertson could challenge Moreno for a start in the starting XI right from the start.
